I want to hear from owners of Prime pups. How are they doing, how big are they, what traits are being passed and what don't you like?

Thanks

I have an 8 month old Prime puppy who has just gone in to my Pro for basics.

So far so good. I am extremely pleased. Meg is smart, very birdy and driven. She has an incredible on/off switch. In the house she is a dream - laid back, mellow, settles well - causes no trouble. She entertains herself for hours with toys and chews. She is not a needy dog.

When she knows its training time and the birds are around she is all business and cannot be deterred. She is focused, driven and waiting for the birds to fall. She can't get enough. She's always looking and waiting for the next mark. Her water attitude is exceptional. She is fearless and loves the water. My girl can mark. She is very stylish with lots of go. I have no noise issues at line and her obedience is excellent. Meg wants to do a good job.

As far as bad things, I really can't say that anything has made me take pause. I like Meg's attitude and sensibility. She gets along well with everybody, dogs and humans alike. She doesn't cause trouble and settled in well with the pack away from home.

I would take another Prime puppy in a heartbeat!

As Rodney said, I kept 2 pups from my breeding of Prime to my female. http://www.meglynretrievers.com/id16.html They are approaching 5 months now, so it's a little early to tell too much, but, as puppies they have done well and are very precocious. The little alpha female I kept shows no fear and her brother is equally good. I've notice that Lucy tends to charge right in where Little Guy (who was the runt, but is now bigger than Lucy) is more thoughtful and tends to spend time evaluating situations. I haven't weighed them in awhile, but I'd guess that both go somewhere around 35-40 right now. I suspect that they'll fall right in the range between Daisy's 64 and Prime's 70. I just got another of the pups back last Friday for training, a male, and will be getting the other female back for training this weekend, so it will give me a great opportunity to evaluate the breeding. Thus far, I'm very pleased.

I'm also pleased to see that Prime was one of the dogs named on the "Best Markers that "YOU" have ever witnessed" thread.

At least 5 of the 7 pups from my Prime x Daisy litter are going to be running competition; hunt tests and, hopefully, in a few cases Derby starting next Spring/Summer. So, look for Lucy (Meglyn's Prime Time to Leave Me Lucille); Little Guy (Meglyn's Lionheart); Cole (Not registered yet) and Sam (Meglyn's Jet Black Samantha) on the line.

I have one out of Prime very nice dog. Just turned 2 in April he got 9 derby points and after aging out he got a Qualifying 4th. Tons of go and a good marker, only bad thing i see right now is once in a while he likes to try and finish blinds by himself :D But he is still young and is getting alot better.

Jill (TealGrove) said it better than I could, I have a female from the same litter. A couple thing that stand out, no noise and a remarkable water attitude, if there is a piece of water around it is difficult to keep her out. I am very pleased as well.

I own Meglny's Jet Black Samantha and have been very pleased with her. I have 3 kids that age from 8-14 and Samantha is wonderfull around the kids and gets much attetion as you might imagine.

I will have Don train her to run in competion, not to mention hunting over her for waterfowl. Don will be working with my 14 year old son so he can handler her for her Jr titles. Last night I brought Samantha over to Don's house for her to play with her brother's and sister and was a nice renunion.

Samantha seems to be like her borther ( Little Guy) she tends to observe and analize things before she jump's in. She is approaching 5 months now and I am looking forward to the training process that follows.
