I hate it when people forward bogus warnings, and I have even done it
myself a couple times unintentionally.

But this one is real, and it's important.

So please send this warning to everyone on your e-mail list.

If someone comes to your front door saying they are checking for ticks
due to the warm weather and asks you to take all your clothes off and
dance around with your arms up, DO NOT DO IT!!

THIS IS A SCAM!!

They only want to see you naked.

I wish I'd gotten this yesterday. I feel so stupid.

UB, They got to me and with bad results. As soon as I got my shirt off, the lady had a seizure and I'm not sure how she is doing. I think Cleo may know something that she is not telling me. I had no idea I would frighten the lady, but if a lady asks me to take my clothes off I always try to comply. You may never know the results unless you try. Bill

One of my favorite country songs on the radio these days is, "I want to check you for ticks." by Brad Paisley....

Here are the lyrics:

Everytime you take a sip
in this smoky atmosphere
You press that bottle to your lips
and I wish I was your beer.
And in the small there of your back
your jeans are playing peek a boo
I'd like to see the other half
of your butterfly tattoo.

Hey, that gives me an idea.
Let's get out of this bar
and drive out into the country
and find a place to park.

Cause I'd like to see you out in the moonlight,
I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks,
I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers,
and I'd like to check you for ticks,

I know the perfect little path
out in these woods I used to hunt,
dont worry babe I've got your back
and I've also got your front.

It goes on for a few more similar verses...but you get the drift.

We used to have them down here in Texas, they say the fire ants have eaten them so we but hardly ever find them any more....but it never hurts to check for them anyway!

Actually having ticks is not a requirement for an official check.

If it feels good ---- do it regards

Crap, I had the scam all wrong, I've been going naked to peoples' houses and asking them to check me for ticks. Was that wrong?

I'll call you from jail regards

Geez UB! You may have just ruined my angle. Hopefully the warnings stop here and I can continue my door to doors.

Fire ants are very very bad.....trust me....maybe the only good they did on our farm was to control the ticks. They short out the electrical system to your water well. They've been blamed for the shortage of Bob White Quail in our area and really any ground nesting bird. They are a menace to livestock and anyone who does anything outdoors. Their mounds can get so big in the pasture that they can flip a 4 wheeler. When a mound is disturbed, they swarm like bees and when they completel cover your foot they give off some sort of signal and they all bite at once. The bites make a small blisters and itch like crazy. If you can put amonia on fresh bites you can keep the blister and subsequent itching away.

The good news is that scientists think they've found a virus that kills them are are testing it in pesticide form now....might get released for distribution in the next few years. A few years ago we heard they had a tiny fly they would release that lays it's eggs on the head of the ant. and the larva would eat into the brain,. I don't know what happened to that idea....

I dont' know if Frontline can be used by humans but when I have to go into an area that has ticks, I use Avon's Skin So Soft Bath Oil before as a repellent and after in a soaking bath. It also works to keep mosquitos off and I even tested it with fire ants. I coated a stick with it about a foot from the end then I purposely disturbed an ant mound with the stick they swarmed but didn't cross the oil.

I usually put some Avon S.O.S. on my leather tennis shoes or on my muck boots to help keep them away also. I don't promise that it works, just seems to help, or maybe I've learned to not step on the mounds.

Believe it or not, fire ants will eat through the shells of almonds! Once the almonds are shaken to the ground, there can be up to a day before they're swept into rows and vacuumed up. The fire ants come out and drill right through the shells and feast on the nice fresh kernels!
We'd work like crazy to get the nuts off the ground before the ants could do much damage.
