I have been working my dogs on water where there are lots of big deer flys to bite the dogs and me. Went on line to Burts Bees website and purchased there all natural herbal insect repellent. Wow does this stuff ever work. I spray it on a paper towell and rub it on dogs head and back. Nothing lands on the dogs or a person with this product on. It even keep working after dogs have been in the water. It is safe for not only people including babys but pets. Ingredients are castor oil, rosemary oil, lemongrass, cedar oil, peppermenit oil , clove oil, geranium oil, citronella oil. I spray it on a papper towell and rub it on dogs head and back. I store the paper towell in a plast zip lock bag and can get a few times use out of it. I though others might have insect problems when working dogs. It cost $7.50 for a 4 oz bottle and if you get a group together and order $50.00 in products they provide free UPS standard shipping.

I've often wondered...when you put bug spray on your dog, particularly on and around his head and nose since that's where they like to bite, does it affect their sense of smell? Does it have a short term affect before they get used to it? I hesitate to do it while training or testing for that fact...I guess I could try and see but I thought I'd ask!

Burts bees bug spray.

It works on mosquitoes, deer flys , horse flys any type of bugs. I had a dog I put in my airring yard. He was full of horse flys 10 on his head. After I put this product on him and put him back in nothing landed on him. I use it in areas with lots of bugs. I don't even think ticks like it. Great safe product for everyone including pets. I am checking it out in area with chickers. I have seen no ill effect on my dogs. I run and train for hunt tests. Dogs with it on there head, and nose area still seem to be able to wind the birds with no problems.
Product small Burts Bees kits you buy in stores has the very small bug repellent that is 1/2 oz or less. On web you can get 4 oz size.

Haven't tried this particular item, but I've used several other Burt's Bees products and love them.

(They offer several sampler assortments of their products, great for little gifts, stocking stuffers - oh jeez, shoot me dead, I don't even want to think of holiday shopping. Not before 12/20 at least.)
