well i have lived here for 9 months and just had my first interaction with a neighbor otherthan the occasional hey while taking trash out. guy walked up with a black lab female and wanted to know about my 5.5 month old choco male. asked his age, told me his dogs age, said she was registered, then asked about mine, then out of the blue asked "wanna breed em." it was very odd and i didnt know how to respond. first i explained his sack hadnt dropped. then tried to explain id rather wait till he was 2 and had his health certs. then i tried to (unsucessfully) to explain that he was an EIC carrier. he had no clue about it or its effects on breeding. i felt like i was giving a biology lesson and genes
i also explained that i was going to run tests with him to make his seed worth more than an average mutt (assumin health certs are ok otherwise he'll be neutered) and he went to tell me "oh yeah she passed her hunt test". i guess that means she did one and passed so she's a-ok now? he then said his buddies dog could find these birds that he hid using hand signals. that of course tells me he knows nothing about blinds yet she was 1.5 years old
interesting night for sure. pretty sure i was the only responsible person discussing the breeding and it seems that if anyone should be responsible it'd be the female and ultimately puppy seller. oh well some people have no clue.
all this to say. people who have dogs at stud do they just sell to every and anyone or do they have stipulations? i know ive seen where owners with deceased dog semen have background tests run on females. what about live ones?
pretty sure moose wont be getting any action for 2-3 years and even then i plan to approach it responsibly. sure every guy wants to let his dog get lucky but gotta be responsible in my book
