Just to inject a little humor....my boy was recently with a female and they just couldn't seem to achieve a tie at first. It wasn't lack of interest or lack of trying on either dog's part, they just didn't seem to connect. It seemed he was always 1/2 inch to an inch away from the "right spot".
The bitch owner turned to me and said, "oh, he's just a typical male. They all think they're several inches longer than they really are".

MY male is very experienced and he will sit and look at them unless they are READY. They will flag, mount him and he will sit with a stupid look on his face but when its showtime watch out, If they are ready they usually dont make it thru the gate!

Tried the "glove" idea. He is just not interested. Had him by her, behind her, on her all while helping him. Helped for 5 minutes...

How long would this take? I had to turn my Barry White tape over twice....

I apologize for being graphic but he was hard but it wouldn't extend past his sheath. He had a large knot about 4 inches back from the tip. Any thoughts?

Trying today a few more times then probably heading to the vet.

LOL. Reminds me of a friend who went up to a person at a trial and started asking all kinds of questions about his toller. Unfortunately the dog in question was a golden.

When I worked for a vet, a client brought in his bitch and the stud. The bitch was ready, the stud would mount and begin the deed, then stop. All test had been done on the female, but the stud is the one with an infection.
A bitch was brought to my kennel to breed with "Rounder". After several tries, no success. My first thought was, "Could Rounder have an infection"? I took both Rounder and the bitch to work with me for Doc to check out. After observing them for a while, he told me "She's not in heat! There is no swelling." Her progesterone test says that she is and Rounder seems to believe that she is! He checked her more thoroughly, and yes, she was in heat, but, she would need to be AI'd.
