You can't answer a question with a question.

What was your point?

Jerry
Jerry, you answered your own question.
As you pointed out when you yourself said. . .The other placements and Jams are NOT inconsequential. But in truth, I don't think any two Judges are gonna sit there and argue at length over a RJam v. Jam. Probably not gonna argue too long over 3rd & 4th either. . . my point is that "that there" is a problem

I would venture to guess that this argument has lasted longer than any 2 judges decision of 3rd vs 4th
After an average of 8 retrieves and 4 round trips from the holding blind to the line are evaluated by 2 independent evaluators something will be different between # X and #Y.
The sheets and books will be signed and everyone will go home without a 5th series.

I think this subject is a little to(sic) sticky for some to weigh in on
I know exactly what I would recommend to my co-judge, John...and I surely don't have to have your approval or opinion to do it 8)....nor do I feel compelled to jump in and comment when there's hardly ever anyone else's opinion that pleases you....although I think Tim's description pretty much jives with what mine would be.

Sorta liked Bubba's POV regards,

MR. Baker,

You need to hop on a plane and spend a day or two with us in May. I have no Suite to offer in reciprocation but you will be comfortable and you WILL eat well.

I'll tell my son you are representing "Jr." and I promise he will be your tour guide!!

Might even introduce you to Polock!!

Can't beat a deal like that.

Jerry,
I'd like that alot, but I have Bristol Motor Speedway tore all to H@@@ right know. We tore out all the walls and most of racing surface in the last 2 weeks. I have been working 13-15 hrs a day, we have to have everything put back in place by July 16th for Goodyear to have a tire test on the new surface. I'm hoping to get to go to a few trials this spring but with this important job at hand besides the other 10 or so we have going on, time is not readily available. I'm sure fun will be had by all !!!

Tim,
Do you hold that position to be true for First and Second place as well...that there is never a time, after four series of testing, when the dog work is so relatively similar that there is as yet no reasonable way to determine which was the better performance...

I'm pretty sure if you look long and hard at the two teams you can decide who the real winner is.....

/Paul
You only have to reread one or more of the Dog A or Dog B threads to disprove that statement,
http://retrievertraining.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=155444&highlight=#155444

I am sure that you can extrapolate to include an AA scenario
john

BTW KG you might want to revisit your exchange with Jack then vs your agreement with Tim now

So the two dogs are tied and you feel that to separate them you need another series. Without opening your mind to expand the critieria being judged it would be possible for them to remain tied for 3 or 4 more series. you could run them until Tuesday. Might be time to open your mind some and look at other factors of the dogs work to decide which one edged out the other.

1st and 2nd (A vs. B) isn't the issue.....C vs. D (3rd and 4th) is. Apples to kumquats....... :?

I would all but question the motives of judges that wanted a fifth series to pick 3rd and 4th if they had a winner and second in hand...., unless, of course, it was all about them instead of all about the dogs.

In 1991, my dog was 1 pt away from his FC. He got fourth in the Open at a trial....so close but yet so far. At the tailgate party on Saturday night, one of the Open judges, a helluva dog man and competitor (now deceased), and I were talking. I mentioned that Rocky was 1 pt. away from his FC...he said "there was virtually no difference between 3rd and 4th place. We almost flipped a coin...." :( ...........................................

Breaks of the game regards,

kg
