FYI. This season's SRS programs began today on Versus. Show is Wednesday at 10 AM and repeated Sunday at 2:30 PM -eastern time I think.
Maybe they don't use the real birds since they are wasted.
So true.Yep...it all started with baseball....in the bullpen.
Nowadays, a poor kid who wants to see a ballgame can't afford a soda pop, let alone admission to a game!
Yea I'm sure that's the reason! I invite you to go by any FT/HT on Sunday afternoon and pickup all the birds that were used so they are not wasted!
Which makes it an even bigger pile of steaming funk.
So Flyway HIghway murders off brazillians of waterfowl but VS wouldn't be OK with using live birds?
It's about money and NOTHING else. SRS doesn't feel like messing with all the logistics around acquiring/shooting/disposing of live birds so the neat answer-
Rubber chickens for all and screw the consequences.
Money changes everything regards

On the contrary, I DO get it. People and organizations get vilified every day in the court of public opinion for conduct that is not illegal just immoral or unethical in the eyes of others. We, as hunters, are in the minority now and that's a fact. I never said to be ashamed of what we do or stop doing it, only that we have to understand that many others would find it abhorrent. We're not talking about a hunting show where the birds are shot and at least used for food. Showing all of America hundreds of birds getting killed in field trials would just be bad P.R. for the AKC, retriever training, and retriever owners.I don't think you get it. Since when have Americans stopped doing something because we might get scared of what "Peta" or whatever thinks? By being cowards about it, they win.
Or it could be a teaching moment;-)On the contrary, I DO get it. Dat right.Training birds are not wasted birds
Dat right.
Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms.Outlaw Josey Wales
I also think the Avery sponsorship plays some role in the use of ABTs.
You keep thinking that.... ;-)LOL. You don't know the 1st damn thing about me. Tis obvious.
Excellent post, Tim, but you can't try to inject reason into this argument. It's the same as British vs. American Labs, Democrats vs. Republicans or FOP vs. Dapper Dan. Trying to talk someone out of thier opinion about it is like 'rasslin' a hog.As we reach the 10 year anniversary of televised retriever competition the debate of live vs rubber ducks continues. No new information or arguments. Both real bird and rubber duck competitions have survived as separate games.
Each game has its own merits, goals and supporters with a few crossovers and that probably won't change either.
